Essentials: The Goth Rosary Candles

I’ve written about The Goth Rosary’s Fragrance Mists in the past and am happy to announce that AntiSally is now offering soy candles in all of her darkly delicious scents. Over the years, The Goth Rosary has provided a variety of high-quality and reasonably priced products– body washes, perfume oils, soaps, and shampoos.

I love candles. So, imagine my glee when my favorite purveyor of scents decided to branch into the candle business. According to the website, the candles have a burn time of around 3.5 hours but I’ve been getting between 5-6 hours with mine. These burn clean without any of the black smoke or residue that is common with many commercial brands.

These candles pack a powerful punch. It doesn’t take long for the scent to permeate a small room and leave a lasting impression. My favorite scent, so far, is Shadows. This scent is subtle enough not to overwhelm but still strong enouh to add a pleasantly dark atmosphere.

Not only are these candles a great product, but the adorable packaging just adds to the appeal. The 100% soy candles are housed in lovely tin coffins. The tins make these candles great as gifts or party favors and can easily be reused after burning.

If you like candles or are just looking for something unique, these candles are perfect. The Goth Rosary offers more than twenty unique scents and will be releasing a new one next month.

Essentials: LG Chocolate 3

A few weeks ago, I upgraded my phone from the Motorola RAZR to the LG Chocolate 3. I had my RAZR for just over two years and it was a great phone– until I broke it in half.

It's pretty... and pretty crappy.

It's pretty... and pretty crappy.

The past few weeks of Chocolate 3 use in a few words: what a nightmare. I picked this phone because it was the prettiest and cheapest flip-phone the Verizon store offered. I don’t require a lot out of a cell phone, but in my mind there are two things a phone must do. First, it has to be able to last several days on one charge. If I am out and forget to bring a charger with me, I expect my phone to last at least 48-hours (with some talk time). Second, the reception on my phone needs to be top-notch. The last thing I need is to be talking to someone in a perfectly good service area, only to have my phone unable to perform. The Chocolate has failed me in both of these areas.

I can no longer take calls in my bedroom. With my RAZR, I had some problems with it but generally was okay to talk. Now, if I answer the phone upstairs at all it immediately drops the call or greets me with silence and static. So, every time my phone rings I must first race downstairs before I answer. The battery is on par with my 2+ year old motorola battery–I talk for fifteen or twenty minutes and a bar of charge-tastic power is gone.

However, there are some things that I do like about the phone. It has a front screen where one can access messages, music, and pictures. The phone itself is a nice size, easily fitting into the hand and even more easily flipping open when answering a call. The keypad is large enough that my thumb is not accidentally pressing buttons I did not want to press. It also has a normal headphone jack and a scroll wheel, both convenient if used as a music player. (The phone has 1G of internal space, but also a microSD slot for added storage). Admittedly, the scroll wheel feels very cheap and is rather hard to get used to after the genius that is the iPod scroll wheel. The camera is also quite nice. I can take a picture of myself on the large front screen, or I can take a picture of my cat on the ample inside screen.

Okay, so if I could do it again I would avoid this phone like I would avoid an army of flesh devouring zombies.

Essentials: Goth Rosary Body/Room Mists

The Goth Rosary has long been one of my favorite online shops. AntiSally offers great customer service and a wide variety of vegan-friendly products– shampoos, lotions, soaps, perfume– in an even more charming variety of unusual scents. Recently, I took advantage of one of her many sales and invested in two of her 2 oz. body/room mists.

gothrosaryOne of the first things that struck me about her scent products is that they were entirely devoid of the alcohol smell that often accompanies other body sprays on the market. I cannot even count the times I have been utterly disgusted with a body mist because it smelled more like cheap flowers and rubbing alcohol than anything even remotely appealing. The Goth Rosary’s body mists, on the other hand, are refreshing and intense! The scents are long lasting, and continue to linger hours after application.

I highly recommend investing in one of the scent sampler packs and allowing the time it takes to experience each of the 20 darkly unique scents. AntiSally’s scents range from light and whimsical to dark and brooding, and are suitable for both men and women.

Now, it is typically $9.99 for one 2 oz. body and room mist. This, at first glance, seems quite expensive– especially when you can get a much larger body mist for the same price in many body shops. However, The Goth Rosary is always running a variety of specials and sales. In addition to this, the customer service is absolutely superb. AntiSally and her helpers package their goods with care, free goodies, and are always quick to answer emails and questions customers might have. It is well worth having to pay a little extra to obtain a unique and entirely hand-crafted scent.

Now that I have my scents, I do not know how I ever lived without them!

Essentials: Cushioned Knee Socks

I never thought I would say this, but it seems Hot Topic has finally learned to do something right. After years of producing over-priced, low-quality goods, they have created a gem in the form of cushioned knee socks.

My sock inspired art!

Socks are a great way to add a little spunk to your wardrobe or a little color to that black cotton skirt. There is nothing more enticing than the way those striped knee socks peak out from under work slacks and long skirts. Recently, Hot Topic has started to offer cushioned socks.

The new socks have a cushioned and reinforced foot that add comfort to even the most uncomfortable pair of flats. As to their quality: the socks wash well and so far have not shown any sign of shrinkage. In addition to this, the fabric stretches more than other similarly-priced knee socks I have come across. One small thing I did notice was that the ones with patterns on them do not stretch quite as well as the plain or striped ones.

You can find these socks at Hot Topic for $6.99. Just make sure you buy the ones that are labeled as being cushioned! If you like funky, comfortable, and affordable socks like I do, you should pick up a pair and try these!

Essentials: C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Tint

tintedmenthaThis perfect little half-ounce tube reads: Our mint-infused lip balm imparts a sheer hint of color and glossy high shine with a refreshing, cooling sensation. Lips stay moist and protected while Peppermint Oil gives breath long-lasting freshness.

C.O. Bigelow’s Mentha Lip glosses are quick becoming my favorite beauty product. As someone who likes to keep things simple, and at the same time add a little sparkle to my life, these little tubes are perfect.

After having used the clear lip-shine for several years, I picked up a magenta tinted  tube yesterday at Bath & Body Works. These lip balms are very high-gloss, even the clear leaves your lips looking shiny and moist. The tinted colors, there are a variety to choose from, add just a hint of color to that lovely gloss. These are great to keep in your purse and slide on if you’re looking to be refreshed during the day. Not only does the mentha lip tint add a bit of color and shine, but it is wonderously moisturizing. No need to carry around boring old chapstick anymore.

However, the best part of these little miracles are the mint. This gloss is infused with peppermint oil, so it not only smells and tastes good, but it makes you feel good. Just as the package says, this gloss leaves your lips tingling and your breath minty-fresh. Not a fan of gum? This is definitely the product for you!

These retail for $7.50 at Bath & Body Works, but you can usually find them on sale for $5. A little goes a long way with this product, so one tube will last you a long time.
